MidKent College sets up Skills Factory for green building

Smart grid incl. wind, PV und pumped storage

MidKent College, with two campuses in Maidstone and Medway, prepares around 6,000 young people every year for their careers. The focus is on modern training. The Skills Factory was launched with the aim of raising awareness of environmental issues and creating knowledge on the topics of sustainable construction, renewable energy solutions and retrofitting residential buildings. Lucas-Nülle supplied a smart grid training system including a wind turbine, photovoltaics and pumped storage. The Lucas-Nülle team carried out the installation, commissioning and training of the teachers on site.

Climate change mitigation, waste reduction, improved indoor climate and biodiversity preservation are topics that are part of the new sustainable building courses at MidKent College. Thanks to the Skills Factory equipped with the help of Lucas-Nülle, a collaboration with various organisations has been established: These include the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), a global organisation whose aim is to promote and advance the science and practice of building for the benefit of the public. The Skills Factory makes the college more attractive to future students. But MidKent College now also offers apprentices and professionals who want to further their education in the field of sustainable construction the opportunity to do so.

„We have meticulously crafted a diverse array of courses aimed at empowering the Green Construction and Sustainable Construction sectors. These courses are strategically designed to equip businesses in their pursuit of decarbonising the industry, fostering a more environmentally conscious approach to construction and building services.“ (Dirk Schönian, Area Sales Manager at Lucas-Nülle)

„The Lucas- Nuelle training rig allows us to create a full smart grid including generating power using renewable Technologies.“ (Lewis O’Callaghan, Project Manager at MidKent College)
